Let’s be real.
Summer school can be amazing or utter chaos. You’ve got a mixed group of students, limited time, and a brain that’s halfway to vacation mode. But with the right prep and the right summer school resources, you can create a learning experience that’s organized, engaging, and even fun.

Yes, fun.
Even in June.

If you’ve taught summer school like I have, you know it’s all about structure, visuals, and systems that run themselves. That’s why I’m sharing my must-haves for teaching summer school and how to set the tone with intentional classroom decor. All of these resources are part of my Summer Classroom Decor Bundle, and they’ve seriously helped keep my room running like a well-oiled beachy machine.

Let’s dive in.

Summer School Resources

Procedures and Rules

Before we do anything, we go over procedures.

Summer school is fast-paced, and your time is gold. So I set clear routines and expectations right away. I use my Summer Routines and Classroom Procedures resource to post visual rules and task reminders that help students remember what to do without needing constant redirection.

Think of it like your summer assistant.
It’s cheerful, on-theme, and makes your day easier.

Learning Objectives

Summer School Resources

Students need to know why they’re learning something, especially when the pool is calling.

I post daily learning objectives using my I Can Statement Posters from the Summer Theme set. These posters are aligned with Common Core standards and designed for clarity. The language is kid-friendly, and the summer vibe makes it feel less like test prep and more like discovery.

Plus, they keep me focused.
When I write “I can describe how weather affects a region” on the board, it helps guide everything, my mini-lesson, my exit ticket, and even the class discussion. Click here for this resource!

Class Jobs

Summer School Resources

You may not think you need classroom jobs for summer school, but hear me out.

When kids have responsibilities, they’re more invested.
Even if it’s just for a few weeks.

I use my Editable Summer Classroom Jobs Chart to give students ownership of small tasks. From “Line Leader” to “Tech Assistant,” each job comes with a bright, beach-themed label and easy setup.

And here’s the secret, they take care of the little things so you can focus on teaching.

Classroom Posters

Summer School Resources

This one’s about morale.

At the end of the year or during the last week of summer school, I love using Summer Classroom Posters to celebrate progress and boost confidence. One of my favorite summer school resources!

They’re more than just cute wall decor.
They’re reminders that learning happened. That effort mattered. That your classroom was a place of growth, even in the off-season.

I post affirmations like You Did It! and Shine Bright! to keep the mood positive and help students finish strong.

Teacher Cart Labels

Raise your hand if your teacher cart turns into a black hole.

Same.

Labeling my rolling carts and supply drawers with these Summer Rolling Cart Labels was a huge deal for me. Everything finally has a place: social studies folders, pencils, headphones, all the stuff.

No more digging through mystery bins.

The labels are editable, color-coded, and easy to match with any summer theme. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “Wow, your room is so organized” during walkthroughs. Little do they know… it’s all the labels.

Google Classroom Banners

Whether you’re doing a blended model or just assigning exit tickets through Google Classroom, your virtual space should match your real one.

I add Summer Google Classroom Banners from the Decor Bundle to keep everything cohesive and inviting. When students log in and see those bright, summer-themed headers, they feel that same welcoming energy from the physical room.

And I’m all about consistency online and offline.

Let’s Talk About Color

Before we get into all things color, let me introduce the Summer Classroom Decor Bundle. It’s my go-to for creating a space that feels calm, inviting, and easy to manage during summer school

I love a good beach theme.
But here’s the deal: Too much color becomes clutter.

The Summer Classroom Decor Bundle uses intentional color choices, soft blues, sunny yellows, ocean-inspired greens, and pops of coral. These shades create a calm, fresh atmosphere without overwhelming the senses.

And the research backs it up.

That’s why I stick to a cohesive palette. No neon explosions. No rainbow chaos. Just clean, coordinated visuals that enhance the space.

When students feel calm, they learn better.
And when everything looks intentional, you feel more in control.

Beachy Vibes With a Purpose

Let’s not pretend that aesthetics don’t make a difference.

When students walk into a classroom that feels fresh, organized, and exciting, it sets the tone. I use the entire Summer Classroom Decor Bundle to create a space that’s calm, fun, and focused.

The bundle includes everything I’ve mentioned:

  • Editable banners

  • Posters

  • Procedures and routines

  • Job charts

  • Cart labels

  • Google headers

  • Learning objective signs

The colors tie it all together.
And they do more than just look good they support learning.

Why It Matters

You might be thinking, “It’s summer. Can’t we just wing it?”

But here’s the thing:

Structure gives you freedom.
Visuals save your voice.
Colors guide behavior.
Systems make it sustainable.

When your classroom runs itself, you can focus on what really matters: helping students grow, exploring cool science topics, diving into new cultures and histories, and actually enjoying those lightbulb moments.

Your summer school classroom doesn’t have to feel temporary or thrown together. With the right tools, it can feel just as intentional and inspiring as your regular-year setup.

Celebrate with Summer School Resources

Teaching summer school is a unique challenge, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. You’re working with students who need a fresh start, a confidence boost, or a little extra support.

By using tools that save time and create structure, you’re setting them up for success—and saving your own sanity in the process.

And let’s be honest, when your room looks great, you feel great.
