July 27, 2020 by StudentSavvy Leave a Comment

This post contains fun and interactive timeline and mapping activities for upper elementary or middle school students who are learning about Ancient Civilizations and Ancient History!

These teaching resources are great for homeschool, distance learning, and/or in the classroom! Most of the activities in this post contain both DIGITAL (Google Slides ~ assigned in Google classroom) and print versions.

Ancient Civilizations Timeline Activities

The interactive google slides are quite the virtual experience! These Ancient Civilization PowerPoints and/or Google Slides can be used as a powerful classroom presentation or students can click their way through it on individual computers. The timelines allow students to click on the dates and it reveals the important information they are learning.

Virtual Interactive Notebook Mapping

Ancient Civilization Map Activity

With this activity, students find a map online of the specific Ancient Civilization (in the photo example, Ancient Greece is used). They use the different colored pins to mark important locations on the map. You can find these interactive maps in the Ancient Civilizations Interactive Notebooks here (both print and digital versions included!)

The interactive events timeline are also included in the Interactive Notebooks. Students can drag and drop events into the correct order! This can be done in Google Slides.

Design your own Interactive Timeline in Google Slides! (Can be used for any Social Studies or History Unit)

Are you in need a social studies timeline template that can be edited and applied to any unit or lesson? If so, be sure to check out this awesome resource. Easy to follow instructions are also included for teachers. Music, template backgrounds, and images are also included. You can change out the slides, add or delete slides, and change the backgrounds.

If you are interested in both the Interactive Google Slides and Interactive Notebooks timeline and mapping activities, I highly recommend the Ancient Civilizations Complete Curriculum Bundle.  This resource has everything you need to teach Ancient Civilizations (Pacing guide, Reading passages, Interactive Notebooks, PowerPoints, STEM Challenges, Student Projects, and much more!)
